UGA Fine Arts Building

Interior Design

PRAXIS3’s design for the Fine Arts building transforms an existing theater balcony into a 277-person state-of-the-art lecture hall capable of hosting lectures, panel discussions, and film screenings. Originally built in 1940, the building housed a 1,500-seat theater that included a 464-seat balcony, which had subsequently been enclosed as a separate space serving as a small lecture hall. After 75 years of renovations, the balcony space had become an underutilized lecture hall lacking the spatial, HVAC, technological, and acoustic needs of a modern facility. In addition to upgrading the teaching and learning environment in this space, our design provided accessibility upgrades to make the space more universally accessible, including the addition of a new 5-stop elevator.
