GSU MARTA Anthropology Lab
PRAXIS3, under the Georgia State IDIQ program, worked closely with the University’s Urban Anthropology Department to design their new MARTA Collection Laboratory. The Lab provides classroom, lab, research, and office space for the department as well as space to store the Atlanta-centric MARTA Collection of historic urban artifacts. The space is tailored for ongoing research and cataloging of a growing collection highlighting Atlanta’s early days as a city. Climate-controlled storage is utilized to store thousands of specimens and human remains– kept in a separate private, limited-access area. The collection and research space had previously been housed in various small spaces around the GSU campus. This project marks the department’s first dedicated research and storage space for this important collection.
