PRAXIS3’s renovation of the former Pirate Athletic Center at Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus creates a 24,000 Student Success Center with dedicated and flexible-use spaces for multiple student service departments. The project included the full replacement of all building systems as well as the creation of an inviting new building entrance that addresses the pedestrian circulation patterns proposed in the university’s master plan. Programmatically, the Student Success Center hosts a diverse range of meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, and study areas associated with Advising, Student Success, and Testing programs concentrated around student development and growth. The design seeks to leverage existing architectural elements – such as the double-height gymnasium space – by incorporating focused interventions that are impactful, efficient, and economical.
