A CHaRMing Collaboration

October 11, 2024

PRAXIS3 is always looking for fun ways to further our sustainability efforts. In April, we sponsored our employees to compete in a friendly weight-driven recycling competition called the CHaRM Corporate Challenge (CCC). The Atlanta-based non-profit Live Thrive’s Center for Hard to Recycle Materials is their premier program to improve environmental health by diverting thousands of pounds of household hazardous waste and other difficult recyclables away from local landfills. Their yearly corporate event, the CCC strives to educate the community about CHaRM and provides a fun way to come together for a great cause. Each company pays to sponsor their employees to bring any and all CHaRM-accepted recyclables to the facility starting April 1st and culminating on Earth Day. At the end, the weight each company brings is tallied up in a friendly competition as a way to celebrate the collective achievement. It’s a great opportunity to help both the environment and support a local non-profit organization.

Led by our Sustainability Committee, several of our energetic employees gathered on a sunny Saturday afternoon to sort and distribute what seemed like an unending stockpile of paint, car parts, home goods, cardboard, electronics, and more. Afterwards, their hard work was rewarded with a nice cold beverage on a nearby patio and a warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment. Those that couldn’t attend the Saturday meetup were encouraged to make separate appointments to bring their items to contribute to the firm’s overall weight.

This was the first year that PRAXIS3 participated in the event, and the turnout was incredible. When all was said and done, a whopping 3,582 pounds of recyclables were diverted from ending up in a landfill- landing P3 in 6th place out of 16 participating corporations. Competition-wide, a total of 89,996 pounds of various reuseable and recyclable items were brought to the facility within a span of nine days!

The PRAXIS3 Sustainability Committee is already looking forward to the 2025 CHaRM Corporate Challenge and thinking of ways to make an even bigger impact next year. Special thanks to all who organized and participated in 2024- Great job, PRAXIS3!
